That’s entertainment! The culture of fun at Jubilation
Ask anyone — yes, anyone — about the entertainment at the luxury active adult community, Jubilation by Silver Companies, and you’ll hear only superlatives. Fantastic. Amazing. Incredible.
“My son and daughter-in-law tell people, ‘My mother’s on a cruise. It’s just that the ship is docked,’” said Jubilation member Meredith Potter.
What’s Jubilation’s secret sauce? It’s entertainment director Eric Brouman, who for many years held that same position with one of the largest cruise ship companies in the world.
Not only has this given him extensive contacts in the entertainment industry, he’s also brilliant at stagecraft. He and his assistant Kelsey Pitman go all out to create settings that make Jubilation’s events a theatrical experience.
And it’s not just a once-in-a-while thing. There’s live entertainment at Jubilation five or six times a week, every week. It would take an encyclopedia to list them all, but here are some recent member favorites.
The Speakeasy
“We really loved it,” said Rae Guilliams. “I wore a flapper dress, a headband with a feather, and a big red boa.”
Matsiko World Orphan Choir
The unique Matsiko World Orphan Choir from Liberia, West Africa, who while on tour in the U.S. gave a performance at Jubilation. Their incredible show featured a message of hope and educational opportunity for the children of the world. Among the venues they’ve performed at are the White House, the Rose Bowl and world-class theme parks.
“It was a singularly wonderful event. They danced and sang and came around to all our tables and talked to us,” said Potter. “And we felt that we were contributing to a group that was doing something for young people’s lives.”
Cruise ship pool party
With their specially created passports, members lined up between boarding stanchions in front of a cruise ship backdrop, then proceeded down a red carpet to the pool area. There, they were greeted with leis by “Captain” Brouman, who along with Pitman and the rest of the staff were in cruise ship uniforms. Live entertainment included a keyboardist and steel drum band that evoked the Caribbean islands. There was even a safety drill, complete with life jackets.
Soul Train ’70s
This event featured a DJ and photo booth, while the staff rolled around on skates, evoking the days of roller disco. To top it off, Brouman, Pitman and two of their colleagues dressed up like an iconic disco band to perform a hit song.

Entertainers galore
Other great performers at Jubilation included the Doo-Wop Cops, ex-policemen from Washington, D.C., who sing the oldies; Shelly Belly, a comic with her own Netflix special; and Jonathan Burns from “America’s Got Talent.”
Outings to hit shows
Not only does entertainment come to Jubilation, members enjoy frequent group trips to the biggest shows in the area, like seeing “Michael Jackson ONE by Cirque du Soleil,” and the hit British musical “Six.”
As if planning and hosting events weren’t enough, Brouman and Pitman also love mingling with Jubilation members, where their exuberant personalities keep everyone’s spirits high.
